Sunday

VALDOSTA, Ga. – In the final results from South Georgia Motorsports Park and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Terry Smith and Peter Biondo led all winners from Sunday’s eliminations.

Smith, Middletown, Ohio, ran down Glen Treadwell, Sorrento, Fla., clocking in at 7.432 seconds at 165.46 mph to Treadwell’s 8.033, 148.61 in Comp Eliminator and Biondo took out veteran racer David Rampy in Super Stock with his ’96 Firebird.  Biondo, Maspeth, N.Y., went 129.34 for the win in Super Stock.

A pair of Georgia racers won for the home state with Bruce Thrift winning in the Davis Golf Cart Top Sportsman class and Robbie Shaw in Stock Eliminator.  Thrift, Waycross, Ga., drove his ’07 GTO to a lap of 6.912 at 199.94 mph to beat Donny Urban’s 7.154, 177.70 and Bowdon, Ga., resident Shaw won in his ’01 Firebird over Peter Noriega and his ’80 Malibu.

In the Southeast Division Hickory Enclosed Trailer Sales Top Dragster class it was Lauren Freer, Mooresville, N.C., knocking out Steve Cohen, Trilby, Fla.  Freer went 6.876 at 195 mph to Cohen, 7.123, 186. 

Other winners this weekend included Raymond Miller, Spring Hill, Fla., in Super Comp; John Taylor, Naples, Fla., in Super Gas; Ed Pauley, Shelby, N.C., in Super Street; Travis Bryant, Bowman, Ga., in 10.00 Index; Jake Sealey, Aiken, S.C., in 11.00; and Chip Rollins, Gainesville, Fla., in 12.00.

NHRA Southeast Division racers head to Auto Plus Raceway, in Gainesville, Fla., for the Amalie Oil NHRA Gatornationals this coming weekend, March 14-17.

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Day two is complete and the fields are set for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Ultimate Sportsman Weekend II event at South Georgia Motorsports Park.  Racers in twelve classes are competing for championship points, and cash and contingency awards of more than $150,000 along with the coveted NHRA “Wally” trophy. 

Gates open on Sunday at 8 a.m. as eliminations get under way at 8:30 a.m. for all classes which included the divisions Davis Golf Cart Top Sportsman, Hickory Enclosed Trailer Sales Top Dragster and Comp Eliminator categories.

VALDOSTA, Ga. - South Georgia Motorsports Park will play hosts to the Ultimate Sportsman Weekend II on March 8-10. The event is one of six in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Southeast division. The event is one of 44 scheduled across the country where drivers earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000.

Gates at South Georgia Motorsports Park open at 8 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  Qualifying and time trials start Friday followed by eliminations for the Sportsman Shootout at noon. Top Sportsman and Top Dragster will qualify on Friday at 3:30 p.m. and again on Saturday at noon and 4 p.m.  Event Eliminations will begin Saturday afternoon and will continue on Sunday morning at 9 a.m.

WHAT: The Ultimate Sportsman Weekend II, one of six events in Southeast Division where drivers earn points leading to divisional and national championships. BONUS PROGRAMS:
NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND: a $519,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by the 2013 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional, regional and national champions. Divisional awards include $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA’s seven divisions will compete for a share of the $119,000 point fund from JEGS High Performance. The 2012 JEGS Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA’s Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series’ eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2013 JEGS Allstars. Points are based on in-division races only.

The winning division’s team will share $20,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions. Winners in Top Sportsman and Top Dragster will each earn $5,000. Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece. Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.

Event sponsor, JEGS High Performance, is offering a “double up” bonus to JEGS Allstars participants. Any 2013 JEGS Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.

Davis Golf Carts Top Sportsman Series: Run in conjunction with the Lucas Oil Series, competitors in the Top Sportsman class are vying for division championships and a share in the year-end purse.

Hickory Enclosed Trailer Sales Top Dragster Series: Run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, competitors in the Top Dragster class are vying for division championships and a share in the year-end purse.
